Mode of Action
Ginkgo biloba (Maidenhair tree) is made up of ginkgo flavone glycosides, several terpene molecules unique to ginkgo (ginkgolides and bilobalide), and organic acids. The special terpene molecules are thought to give Ginkgo biloba its ability to fight many of the effects of aging. This includes improving blood circulation, reducing inflammation, and protecting brain cells from damage caused by lack of oxygen. Plant scientists believe that the most active constituents of ginkgo are certain flavonoid compounds known as "flavoglycosides" or "ginkgoheterosides," and certain complex terpene compounds, such as bilobalide and one or more of the ginkgolides. Many of ginkgo's positive effects are tied to its potency as an antioxidant, a protector of nervous system cells, and regulator of blood platelet stickiness. Solidago virguauria (Goldenrod) Anti-inflammatory; relaxant; anti-catarrhal; urinary antiseptic. Melissa officinalis(Lemon balm)Used in the treatment of colic, hyperthyroidism, cold store, indigestion, heartburn, insomnia and induces mild perspiration. Erythraea centaurium (Centaury) Aromatic bitter, stomachic and tonic. It acts on the liver and kidneys, purifies the blood, and is an excellent tonic. Equisetum arvense (Horsetail) Horsetail is very rich in silicic acid and silicates, which provide approximately 2-3% elemental silicon. Potassium, aluminum, and manganese along with fifteen different types of bioflavonoids are also found in the herb. The presence of these bioflavonoids are believed to cause the diuretic action, while the silicon content is said to exert a connective tissue strengthening and anti-arthritic action. Viscum album (Mistletoe) It has been employed in convulsions delirium, hysteria, neuralgia, nervous debility, urinary disorders, heart disease, and many other complaints arising from a weakened and disordered state of the nervous system. Tanacetum parthenium (Feverfew) Feverfew reduces the incidence of Headaches and Migraine headaches (by inhibiting Platelet Aggregation and preventing the release of excessive Arachidonic Acid) [scientific research - humans: 70% success rate]
