Mode of Action
Fucus vesiculus (Kelp) Kelp is a sea vegetable that is a concentrated source of minerals, including iodine, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron. Kelp, as a source of iodine assists in making thyroid hormones, which are necessary for maintaining normal metabolism in all cells of the body. Galium aperine (Cleavers) An effective remedy for skin eruptions, lymphadenopathy, and other toxic conditions, especially where associated with tissue oedema and water retention, for urinary infections, calculi, colic and strangury. Taraxacum officinalis (Dandelion) The principal constituents responsible for Dandelion's effect on the digestive system and liver are the bitter principles. Previously referred to as taraxacin, these constituents are sesquiterpene lactones of the eudesmanolide and germacranolide type and are unique to dandelion. Dandelion is also a rich source of vitamins and minerals. The leaves have a very high content of vitamin A as well as moderate amounts of vitamin D, vitamin C, various B vitamins, iron, silicon, magnesium, zinc, and manganese. Glycorrhiza glabra (Liquorice) The two most important constituents of licorice are glycyrrhizin and the flavonoids. Glycyrrhizin is anti-inflammatory and inhibits the breakdown of the cortisol produced by the body. It also has antiviral properties. Licorice flavonoids, as well as the closely related chalcones, help digestive tract cells heal. They are also potent antioxidants and work to protect the cells of the liver. Erythrea centaurium (Centaury) Aromatic bitter, stomachic and tonic. It acts on the liver and kidneys, purifies the blood, and is an excellent tonic. Paulina cupana (Guarana) Nervine, tonic, slightly narcotic stimulant. Curcuma longa (Turmeric) Protects the liver against many toxins, inhibits platelet aggregation, and lowers cholesterol. Has antibiotic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Zingiber officinalis (Ginger) Ginger possesses Antioxidant properties (due to Shogaol and Zingerone). Ginger stimulates the body's production of energy and induces perspiration. Capsicum minimum (Cayenne) Cayenne was frequently used to treat diseases of the circulatory system. It is still traditionally used in herbal medicine as a circulatory tonic (a substance believed to improve circulation). This facilitates the removal of toxins.
