Mode of Action
Achillea millefolium (Yarrow) is used to treat inflammation in a number of conditions, especially in the intestinal and female reproductive tracts it is also utilized as a mild sedative. Vitex Agnus castus (Chasteberry) Active principles act on certain hormone producing glands. Anemone pulsatilla (Pasque flower) Calming and sedative, with particular application to pain and inflammation in the reproductive system. Used for painful menstruation, for inflammation and infection of male and female reproductive organs and tissues, to relieve nervous tension and anxiety associated with PMS and menopause. Alchemilla vulgaris (Lady's mantle) The Lady's Mantle has astringent and styptic properties, on account of the tannin it contains. Slightly spasmolytic. Astringent, both locally and systemically; regulatory of the menstrual cycle; digestive tonic, alterative. Used for enteritis and resultant diarrhoea, for excessive menstrual bleeding and for excessive bleeding of any cause. Potentilla anserina (Wild pansy) Anti-septic and astringent, reduce bleeding and inflammation. Lamium album (White dead nettle) It narrows bloodvessels, reducing excessive mensruation, vaginal discharge, cystitis, and haemorrhoids. Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort) has a complex and diverse chemical makeup. Hypericin and pseudohypericin are believed to have antidepressive and antiviral properties. St. John's wort may exert a mild antidepressive action. The antidepressant (or mood elevating) effects of St. John's wort were originally thought to be due solely to hypericin, but hypericin does not act alone. As with many herbal medicines, St. John's wort relies on the complex interplay of many constituents (e.g., xanthones and flavonoids) for its antidepressant actions.4 St. John's wort may also block the receptors that bind serotonin. Primula veris (Cowslip) Sedative, antispasmodic. A stimulating expectorant, anti-spasmodic and sedative. Tanacetum parthenium (Feverfew) Feverfew relieves tension in muscles. Increase fluidity of lung and bronchial tube mucous, promotes menses, stimulates the appetite, and stimulates uterine contractions. Good for arthritis, colotis, fever, headaches, menstrual problems, muscle tension and pain.
