[custom_frame_center shadow=”on”]Mango and Banana Smoothie[/custom_frame_center] A smoothy is a quick and convenient way to start your day, and by choosing fleshy fruits such as mango and banana, you’ll be raring to go for longer. We tried this Mango and Banana Smoothie by celebrity TV chef Rachel Allen – and we are hooked.

Mangoes contain beta-carotene, vitamins A and C, folate and a fibre called pectin, which has been shown to reduce blood cholesterol. Bananas are rich in vitamin B6 and potassium, necessary to regulate heart and muscle contraction. Potassium also plays a role in controlling blood pressure.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe mango
  • 2 bananas
  • 200 ml plain low-fat yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 12 ice cubes

The orchard’s the limit when it comes to smoothies. Blend any seasonal fruit of your choice with yoghurt and a little honey to start your day with a zing!

Method

Put all the ingredients in a liquidiser and blend. Pour the smoothie into tall glasses and serve immediately.
Serves 2.
